SUPERB - Upscaling forest restoration
SUPERB (Systemic solutions for upscaling of urgent ecosystem restoration for forest-related biodiversity and ecosystem services) aims at restoring thousands of hectares of forests landscape throughout Europe. It does so by binding research to practice in 12 demonstration areas. In these sites, the effectiveness of different restoration practices, guided by scientific principles, is tested. The particularity of the project is that is tests a wide range of restoration practices, and considers the entire socio-ecological systems, including people’s needs for goods and services. To this end, local stakeholders are consulted. Overall, the project should not only restore forest landscape throughout Europe, but also test a wide range of future-oriented restoration practices, and create a large multi-stakeholder network. Forest restoration approaches and actions should end up up-scalable.
