Alonso Álvarez de Toledo Honoured for a Lifetime Dedicated to the Countryside
The gala dinner held during the 29th General Assembly of Friends of the Countryside, hosted this year in Extremadura, took place in the historic city of Cáceres on 22 May. During the ceremony, Thierry de L’Escaille and Jurgen Tack presented Alonso Álvarez de Toledo y Urquijo, XII Marqués de Valdueza, with a special trophy in recognition of “An Inspirational Life Dedicated to the Countryside.” The award ceremony was a particularly moving moment and will remain one of the most memorable highlights for the more than 200 guests in attendance.
Alonso Valdueza has long been part of the story of ELO. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been deeply committed to nature conservation, the management of agricultural and livestock estates, and the promotion of sustainable hunting. He has chaired numerous organisations and has played a leading role in international wildlife conservation initiatives. His name is especially associated with the defence of traditional rural practices in Spain and the advancement of environmental stewardship across the countryside.
Among his many responsibilities, he serves as Honorary President of Friends of the Countryside Spain. Beyond his institutional contributions, he has successfully developed the Marqués de Valdueza agri-food brand, renowned for its premium olive oils, wines, and vinegars, which are sold and appreciated around the world.
This award recognises not only a remarkable professional journey but also a lifelong dedication to preserving the cultural, environmental, and economic vitality of the countryside for future generations.
