Europe’s agri-food chain calls for NGT adoption now and opposes additional burden on operators
As the EU approaches the final stages of trilogue negotiations on New Genomic Techniques (NGTs), the European Landowners’ Organization has joined 24 leading agri-food organisations in signing a joint letter urging policymakers to adopt an enabling, science-based framework without further delay. The signatories highlight the urgent need for a clear and proportionate regulatory approach that empowers breeders, supports farmers, strengthens Europe’s competitiveness, and responds to mounting challenges posed by climate change, evolving pests, and rising global demand. With other regions of the world already advancing rapidly in the use of NGTs, the letter calls on EU co-legislators to conclude the negotiations and avoid additional administrative burdens that risk holding Europe back at a critical moment for its strategic autonomy and food security.
