Open letter to MEPs on Draft report on the proposal for a regulation of the EuropeanParliament and the Council on nature restoration

2023

Climate change is impacting the European ecosystems to a degree we still not fully understand but important decisions have to be made today. We are aware that, in face of the multiple crises, there is the temptation to prioritize short-term gains at the expense of sustainable solutions. A long-term approach is however of crucial importance to cope with the more regular extreme events we will face. With this new regulation, we need to look beyond the traditional view on protection and restoration.

Ecologic, social and economic sustainability can only be reached when focusing on the provision of ecosystem services in function of climate change and biodiversity loss.
