Rejection of a compromise text on the Forest Monitoring law in a Joint ENVI-AGRI Committee of the European Parliament
2025
The European Parliament’s Joint ENVI-AGRI Committee has taken decisive steps on two key forestry files, reflecting ongoing debates over EU forest governance. In a highly contested move, Members rejected the compromise text on the Forest Monitoring Law, raising questions about the future of the proposal. At the same time, the Committee backed the creation of a Standing Forestry Committee, signalling strong support for structured cooperation between the Commission and Member States. Against this backdrop, the European Landowners’ Organization (ELO) outlines its position, welcoming the rejection of the forest regulation and supporting the establishment of the new Standing Committee.
