EU Biodiversity Conference 2024 - Enhancing Water and Land Resilience
The European Union faces increasing climate-related challenges, making water resilience essential to preserving biodiversity, sustaining agriculture, and adapting to climate impacts.
On December 10, 2023, the European Biodiversity Conference, “Enhancing Water and Land Resilience,” brought together policymakers, environmental leaders, and community stakeholders to address the urgent need for sustainable water management amid severe droughts, floods, and ecosystem degradation.
Aligned with the EU’s Strategic Agenda 2024-2029, the conference focused on:
- Nature-Based Solutions (NBS): Supporting biodiversity while managing water sustainably.
- Policy Integration: Ensuring cohesion across agriculture, energy, and regional development to strengthen water resilience.
- Innovative Investments: Exploring technologies like water-efficient irrigation, precision agriculture, and integrated pest management.
- Collaboration: Promoting partnerships between public and private sectors to advance green infrastructure, pollution control, and conservation initiatives.
Participants also explored funding strategies, policy enhancements, and collaborative approaches to securing a sustainable future for Europe’s water and land resources.
Held at the Residence Palace in Brussels, the conference served as a critical forum to chart a course toward more resilient ecosystems and communities in the face of climate challenges.
