The European Landowners’ Organization acknowledges the significance of the "Food and Biodiversity Package" for land managers

The proposal regarding New Genomic Techniques is a remarkable regulation that focuses on providing solutions. ELO appreciates the recognition of the potential of NGTs in promoting sustainability and facilitating climate change adaptation while ensuring environmental protection, animal health, and consumer safety. To achieve the objectives outlined in the Farm to Fork Strategy, landowners require safe and efficient tools, and the extensive studies supporting the proposed legislative text demonstrate that the precautionary principle is at the forefront of regulating plants produced by specific genomic techniques. The notification procedure, as the preferred approach for regulating Category 1 NGTs, ensures safety while reducing administrative burdens. This approach also benefits small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by minimising costs, enhancing competitiveness, and facilitating trade.
